POLS 1100 U.S. Government and Politics

The below essay was written in my English 1050 - Introduction to Reading in Contemporary Culture course.  The essay describes how cell phones have become modern day cultural artifacts.  During my research I was absolutely astounded by how many cell phones are currently being used and by how much (and often!) people use their cell phones.   It is a global sensation.  Please read and enjoy.

Taking a moment to reflect...

I chose the above essay for a couple of reasons.  I took POLS 1100 (U.S. Government & Politics) and ENGL 1050 (Intro to Reading Contemporary Culture) during the same semester at SLCC.  Both classes were done online and were (in all truthfulness) great, interesting courses.  And taking the two courses together proved to be beneficial.  Because what I learned about culture helped me understand politics and what I learned about history helped me better understand where some of America’s cultural diversities come from.  The second reason I chose this essay is because I figured so many people have cell phones so it will be an intersting and relevant subject matter for people to read.

While I was taking both of these courses I was participating in discussions with my classmates, and sometimes it was amazing the similarities in the topics.  And both class discussions got heated when religion and Presidents were talked about.  The hardest part of these online discussion is that text can be interpreted wrong and then people will think “well I’ll never see this guy anyways” and they will be unbridled in their remarks.  How I have learned to combat my desires to fly off the handle and tear into a person is I would write an angry reply and bluntly say everything that they had coming to them.  Then I would read it, feel bad and re-write a new, level-headed reply.  It worked almost every time.

I feel like I want to make it worth your for taking the time to view and read my ePortfolio.  So how about a joke?

Why do gorillas have big nostrils?

Because they have big fingers!
